I get an Address Pointer equals 0 error! What does it mean?

****Please note that this only applies to version of ActiLife prior to ActiLife5.****
Address Pointer Equal Zero

"Address Pointer = 0" means that there is no data on the device. In other words, the device was:

  1. Never initialized or initialized improperly
  2. The device is still in its "Delay Mode"

You can check the state of the device by looking at the report status view (ActiLife version older than 4.0.0 use Options -> Device Information in the menu bar). The information displayed here can help determine the reason for this error. Here are a few possibilities that may cause the software to display this error:

  1. The device was initialized as usual, but then an attempt was made to download data from the device before the device could start. This indicates that that device is still in "Delay Mode." This mode is the time period between initialization and the start time/date you specified during the initialize setup. You must wait until the device has had adequate time to begin collecting data before attempting to download from it.
  2. The device's firmware was upgraded and then there was an attempt to download data before the device was initialized. Upgrading the firmware on the device ensures reliable functionality, however this process erases all data on the device and sets the device in "Halt Mode." This is a special mode that prepares the device for initialization upon next use. In order to use this device again, you must initialize the unit.

Here is a view if the device was never initialized (showing both old view and new):

Report Status for new version of ActiLife

Device Information (Never Initialized)

Notice the "Modes" section of the above view. The "Initialized" check box is clear indicating that this device was never initialized. This most likely resulted from a recent firmware upgrade. This view is correct if the device's firmware was recently upgraded. Also notice the "Subject Name" under "General Device Information." It states "Not Initialized" to help indicate the device's current state.

Here is a view of a device that is still in "Delay Mode":

Report Status of new ActiLife Delay Mode

Device Information (Delay Mode)

Notice the "Modes" section. The device is initialized, but it is still in delay mode. The device is in this mode because the start date/time has not yet elapsed. (For this example, the device was initialized at 7:00:00 AM on December 29, 2008. Since the device is in this mode, it will not take any data until that start time occurs.
